One person. Thirty years. No committee.

I'm Nat Thompson. I've been building websites since 1996, and I still do every bit of the work myself.

I started building websites when the web was made of tables and animated GIFs. I've watched technologies come and go — Flash, Silverlight, jQuery, and about fifty JavaScript frameworks. Through all of it, one thing hasn't changed: businesses need websites that work, and most of the people building them are overcomplicating it.

Obsidian River isn't an agency. There's no account manager, no project coordinator, no junior developer learning on your dime. When you hire me, you get me — the same person who's been doing this for three decades.

I'm based in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and I work with small businesses who are tired of the runaround. Tired of agencies that charge too much, freelancers who disappear, and DIY website builders that look like they were designed by a committee of robots.

Why I work this way

I've worked at agencies. I've managed teams. I've sat through enough meetings to know that most of them exist to justify someone's salary. So I stripped all of that out.

No overhead means lower prices. One person means no miscommunication. Thirty years means I've already made every mistake you can make — so I won't make them on your project.

I keep my client list small on purpose. I'd rather do great work for a few people than mediocre work for a lot of them.
